Basic resources: Linde is investing more than US$200 million in new petrochemical plants in Texas as part of its plan to build the world’s largest natural gas-based complex. BG Group’s third floating production platform off the Brazilian coast started production.
Industrials: Rolls Royce signed a US$4 billion-agreement with Singapore Airlines to provide engines for its fleet of Boeing 787 aircraft. RPC Group’s full-year profits were hurt by foreign exchange losses and higher material costs. Melrose Industries confirmed recent speculation that it is considering the possible sale of two of its lifting equipment divisions as part of its strategy to buy good manufacturing business, improve their performance and sell them.
Pharmaceuticals: Elekta’s positive full-year results were helped by growing demand for its radiation therapy equipment and software, particularly in emerging markets.
